The Identification and Selection Process:

The selection of students reflects the mission of the school to empower academically talented young people primarily from minority and low-income families. Identification and selection is managed by the principal and guidance counselor with assistance from Richmond Public Schools coordinators, students, parents, and Advisory Board members. A Selection Committee is appointed by the principal to make the final decisions. Counselors from RPS middle schools provide standardized test scores, transcripts, demographic information, recommendations and attendance records. Applications are circulated within the school system and in private schools in the Richmond region.

Who is eligible to apply?

Public and private middle school students in grade 8 and students completing grade 9 with above average ability, who reside in the city of Richmond, may submit an admissions application to Richmond Community High School. 
Although we consider applications from all students, special consideration may be given to economically disadvantaged students completing grades 8 and 9 with above average ability. 
Every applicant will need to complete this electronic form, along with submitting an application.

Admissions/Selection:

The following is the student admission plan for Richmond Community High School for the 2016-2017 school year:

1.  The RCHS application for the 2016-2017 school year will be available online at the school website (http://web.richmond.k12.va.us/rchs/Home) effective Monday, November 16, 2015.  Students and parents will be able to enter information on the application online; however, the application MUST be printed and given to the student’s middle school counselor or administrator for completion.

2.   RCHS staff will host a Student-Parent Information Session on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.  During the meeting, staff, students and alumni will share information about the school and details for completing the application.

3. The application must be submitted to the student's middle school guidance counselor by Wednesday, February 10, 2016

4. School counselors will deliver the completed application packet to RCHS by the close of business on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.

5.   Testing and interviews of applicants will be held at the school on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12, 2016.

6.   Admission decisions will be postmarked to applicants by Tuesday, March 22, 2016.
